2026 SICSS-Korea: Summer Institute in Computational Social Science in South Korea

From June 22nd to 27th, 2026, KAIST and KDI School of Public Policy and Management will sponsor the Summer Institute in Computational Social Science (SICSS-Korea) to be held at the KAIST Campus. The purpose of the Summer Institute is to bring together students, postdoctoral researchers, and early-career faculty members interested in computational social science.

Eligibility

Participation is open to graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, junior-level researchers in public or private research institutes, and untenured faculty members within seven years of earning their Ph.D. Undergraduate students interested in computational social science are also encouraged to apply. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and fields of study, especially those from under-represented groups in computational social science. About 15 participants will be invited, and they are expected to fully attend the entire one-week program at the KAIST Campus.

Please note that the program will provide dormitory accommodation for all invited participants at the KAIST Campus for the duration of the Summer Institute (June 22-27, 2026). However, travel expenses (including transportation to and from the venue) will not be covered by the program.

Programs

The program will include lectures, group problem sets, and participant-led research projects. There will also be guest speakers who conduct computational social science research in various fields, such as Informatics, political science, communication, science of science, urban planning, and spatial analysis. Topics include (but not limited to) NLP/text-as-data, large language models, machine learning, network analysis, and research ethics. Students will have ample opportunities to discuss their own ideas and research with the organizers, other participants, and guest speakers.
