A new paradigm of inclusion, innovation, peace, international cooperation, and balanced development Research Groups

The Joint Research Group proposes a new policy paradigm in response to the era of great transition by promoting inclusive and innovative growth, and supports key policy issues with high urgency and importance, such as supporting the realization of national vision through peace and prosperity on the Korean Peninsula, international cooperation, and balanced development. It was formed for the purpose of active policy support for the government, and it is contributing to securing research institutes’ accountability and trust for the government and the public, and establishing a cooperative and collaborative culture among research institutes.

  • Composition President of the Korea Institute for Health and Social Affairs, and 12 research organizations
  • Purpose To suggest policy tasks and solutions for linking employment, distribution, and welfare and securing the power of cooperative growth through social dialogue and great compromise to share the fruit of growth and build a foundation for sustainable growth
  • Research agendas Comprehensive research on inclusive growth; resolving inequality in Korean society; poverty and income distribution; resolving social inequality in Korea and the issue of inclusive growth; inclusive welfare; policy suggestions for resolving poverty of the elderly; improving job quality and increasing jobs quantitatively; social dialogue; labor-management cooperation; cooperative innovation; ways to improve productivity, etc.
  • Major activities Major activities: Conducting cooperative research projects ("Korea's Social Gap Issues and Inclusive Growth Strategy," "A Study on the Analysis of the Status of Poverty of the Elderly and Its Socioeconomic Implications," "Comprehensive Surveys on People's Demand," etc.); publication of research brief on inclusive growth ; policy seminars held

  • Research agendas Comprehensive research on innovative growth, response to the Fourth Industrial Revolution, fostering of new industries, restructuring of existing industries, productivity innovation, creative talent development, cross-industry convergence, regulatory innovation, digital innovation, enhancement of social innovative capabilities, etc.
  • Major activities Conducting cooperative research projects ("Visions and Strategies for Innovative Growth (II): policy, institution, and social infrastructure," etc.); publication of a research brief on innovation-based growth; and hosting policy seminars

  • Composition President of the Korea Institute for National Unification, with 15 research organizations
  • Purpose To suggest plans and policy alternatives to comprehensively manage the development of inter-Korean relations in the future, including inter-Korean development cooperation for peace and prosperity on the Korean Peninsula.
  • Research agendas A comprehensive study on North Korea's development, follow-up measures to the North Korea-U.S. summit, support for inter-Korean economic cooperation and North Korea's economic development, social and cultural exchange and integration, vision and strategy for prosperity and peace on the Korean Peninsula, the New Korean Peninsula system, and response to current issues related to North Korea
  • Major activities Conducting cooperative research projects (such as "Comprehensive Research on Promotion of the New Korean Peninsula System"); publication of a research brief on peace and prosperity on the Korean Peninsula, and holding policy seminars.

  • Purpose To boost the role of the Republic of Korea as a world-leading country, establish a global national strategy, share customized development experiences by region and country, establish an international cooperation network, and promote and manage international cooperation projects
  • Research agendas Establishing a global international cooperation vision and strategy; increasing global soft power capabilities; supporting international development cooperation; global inclusive innovation; establishing and operating a joint platform for international development cooperation; integrated implementation of international development cooperation at the level of the NRC; collaborative projects in developing countries
  • Major activities Conducting cooperative research projects ("International Development Cooperation Governance: Current Status and Implementation Tasks," etc.); organizing and operating the Global Korea Forum (GKF, with over 70 public institutes as participating members), and hosting international development cooperation policy seminars

  • Composition President of the National Institute of Land and Transport, the NRC, National Research Council of Science and Technology (NST), National Balanced Development Committee, Korea Association of Regional Development Institutes, research institutes affiliated with the National Research Council, and other national research institutes, etc.
  • Purpose To examine the progress and problems of the key tasks of national balanced development (in response to the industrial hollowing, development of innovative cities, utopia in rural areas, balanced regional development, decentralization, etc.) and suggest new policy alternatives
  • Research agendas Establishing a national balanced development strategy, establishing a regional innovation governance integrated system, responding to population shrinking/regional emptying, decentralization and balanced development, relationships with regional growth, developing innovative cities, responding to areas impacted by industrial hollowing, creating rural utopia, etc.
  • Major activities Conducting cooperative research projects (such as "New Era Balanced Development Strategy and Action Plans of New Era"), Balanced Development Forum, Discussion Meeting for Innovation City Development, Industrial Hollowing Area Meeting, Rural Utopia Forum, National Seminar on Balanced Development
